We love to clean slate floors and the dirtier the better, all though we do advise regular professional cleaning to keep your floors in tip top condition for years to come. Below is our procedure for cleaning your (soon to be) beautiful slate floor.
How we clean slate floor kitchen tiles
Once we’ve assessed your floor type we can decide on which solutions we need to get the best results. If the floor has not been sealed or is quite porous we will wet the floor through first, this allows the next step which is the cleaning solution to attack the dirt on top rather than soak into the slate/stone. After the cleaning solution has had time to work on the soils, (sometimes we may need 2 or 3 different solutions depending on soiling types, general dirt, oil based soiling, drink spills or pet accidents) we move in with our heavy duty rotary machine fitted with the latest brushes (we have a selection of brushes for different flooring so don’t worry about damage) to scrub and break up all the soiling.
We then can start to rinse the floor using an enclosed pressure washer, this special wand can have the pressure altered to suit the flooring type and because of the design, trap the water pressure inside so no spraying everywhere, it also vacuums up the dirty solution which is sent straight outside to our waste tank in the van so no tipping dirty water down your toilet of waste pipes which could lead to blocked drains.
Due to the expense of machinery we are able to use hot water when rinsing for far superior results. Once fully rinsed we assess if it needs a second attempt, that’s right, we don’t just leave it at that, we fully inspect the flooring to see if we can get an even better result with another attempt or maybe a different solution. If so we re-clean until we know that your floor is the best it can be.
We then use drying machines to dry the floor ready for sealing.
Once dry your floor is ready to be sealed, sealing a floor can (if desired) make the floor look different, whether you want a naturally look, a slight sheen or totally shiny, or if you have certain colours in the floor we can use a sealer that enhances those colours, this is discussed in full with our client so we can give the desired look, if you’re unsure on the look we can give you a few demo seals so you can decide, once decided we proceed with sealing your floor, this not only protects it from spills but also makes it far easier for you to maintain on a daily basis. Soils and spills will mop away easy and effortless like when the floor was originally laid.
